Mental health problems are increasingly affecting the workplace and are among the leading cause of sickness absence. There are many reasons people need support, including financial insecurity, feeling isolated, climate change and rising costs. Whatever the size of your business, everyone needs help sometimes.
Your GP can offer you and your employees support and advice. On this page are links to a number of resources that could help when things get too much.
General wellbeing and mental health support
ACAS has a range of advice for employers and employees, including mental health at work tips and videos.
Action for Happiness offer various mood lifters, and a free online coaching programme to boost wellbeing.
Andy’s Man Club is a men’s suicide prevention charity, offering free-to-attend peer-to-peer support groups across the United Kingdom and online
NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Talking Therapies aim to make psychological therapies more accessible for anyone who is experiencing common mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety. Individuals can self refer.
Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire Mind are passionate about positive wellbeing and provide support to local people who may experience mental health challenges. You can sign up anonymously to their free online support and wellbeing community Qwell as part of the Good Life Service.
How Are You South Cambs? brings together everything in South Cambridgeshire that promotes positive mental health. From a friendly ‘how are you’, to activity groups and much more – it’s all about taking care of our mental wellbeing.
Keep Your Head brings together information on mental health and wellbeing for children, young people, adults, professionals, and schools across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Lifecraft is a user-led organisation for adults in the Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Newmarket area who have first-hand experience of mental health difficulties.
Mates in Mind is a leading UK charity raising awareness and addressing the stigma of poor mental health. Working across industries such as construction, transport, logistics, and manufacturing, they aim to provide information to employers on mental health and wellbeing, and how they can address this within their organisations.
Mental Health at Work offers useful toolkits, including mental health for small workplaces.
Mental Health First Aid has a number of resources and advice for remote working.
Mind gives various advice and links to wellbeing, including the Wellness Action Plan which is a useful tool for staff to broker discussions about their wellbeing needs with their manager.
Nick Elston is one of the highest-profile mental health inspirational speakers. On his YouTube channel, Nick shares his own experience through insights, tools, tips and techniques.
NHS ‘Every Mind Matters’ offers a wide range of mental health advice.
OK Rehab is a UK-based helpline for people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction issues. They work in partnership with over 140 treatment providers to locate tailored addiction treatment.
The Public Health England and Business in the Community Mental Health for Employers Toolkit gives positive practical and strategic advice on developing good mental health in the workplace.
The Public Health England and Business in the Community Employers Suicide Prevention Toolkit helps employers, line managers, HR and Occupational Health staff identify employees who may have suicidal feelings. It also gives advice on how to deal with a crisis situation.
Rethink Mental Illness has specific advice for anyone with a mental health condition, or their carers.
The Samaritans have a range of support tools, including a self-help app and tips on how to cope during difficult times.
The Health and Safety Executive's Working Minds campaign helps businesses and workers prevent work-related stress.
ZSA is a members-led charity dedicated to preventing suicide. It offers simple 20-minute online suicide awareness training.
Help and support lines
Anxiety UK offers an extensive range of support services designed to help control anxiety rather than letting it control you.
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough First Response Service offers urgent mental health support for those in crisis. 24 hour access available 7 days a week.
Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire Mind (CPSL Mind) is a values-based, county-wide mental health charity. It offers telephone and video call support.
Calm has a helpline and webchat service available between 5pm to midnight, 365 days a year.
NHS mental health services helps you find out how to access NHS mental health services and where to get urgent help.
Shout is a free text service for anyone who is in need of immediate support for their mental health.

Calm offers mindfulness, meditation and breathing programmes to help lower stress, anxiety and promote more restful sleep.

Feeling Good improves your thoughts, feelings, self‐esteem and self‐confidence through audio tracks, using the principles of cognitive therapy.

My Possible Self helps you build a more resilient workplace by empowering your employees to improve their mental health with tools to help them flourish in the workplace and at home.
Reflectly is a simple personal journaling app, mood tracker and daily gratitude journal for self-care. It also offers daily motivational messages.
