Thermal Imaging Cameras

To make your home energy efficient, it helps to understand where the heat is escaping. This can be identified with a thermal imaging camera.

If you are resident in South Cambridgeshire, you can borrow a thermal imaging camera from Cambridge Carbon Footprint and look at your home, or other buildings, to identify gaps in insulation, draughts and heating problems.

Through Cambridge Carbon Footprint's scheme, you can attend a short training session to learn how to use the thermal cameras and interpret their images. You will then be able to borrow a camera.

How it works

The camera can usually be used between around November and the end of March. There needs to be around 10 degrees difference in temperature between the outside and the inside, for the camera to show heat loss effectively. If the weather is mild, the camera can still be used, as long as the heating is put up very high and turned on for several hours before surveying.

Borrowing a camera

You can find out more about borrowing a thermal imaging camera, including booking onto a camera training session, on the Cambridge Carbon Footprint website. They also have lots of useful resources on using the cameras.

If you are a business based in South Cambridgeshire you can borrow a thermal imaging camera from South Cambs Hall. You'll need to collect and return the camera from our offices:

South Cambridgeshire Hall
Cambourne Business Park
CB23 6EA

Please bring photo ID or proof of business address. Borrowing a camera is free of charge, we simply ask you to fill in a short feedback form so we can see the kind of issues being identified.

You are responsible for the camera and its accessories whilst it is on loan to you. We expect you to use it with care and take necessary precautions to avoid loss or damage.
