South Cambridgeshire District Council Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Policy

On 1 January 2025, the new Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy [PDF, 0.4MB], will take effect.

Main Revisions

  • there have been revisions to the appeal process
  • safeguarding training for new applicants must include disability awareness and must be undertaken in a classroom setting (online or remote) by a Council approved course provider
  • category A, B, N or S insurance write-off vehicles will not be permitted, to further enhance driver and passenger safety and vehicle standards 
  • wheelchair accessible private hire vehicles can be licensed if they meet Euro 5 emission standards
  • there is a requirement for daily vehicle checks
  • before submitting an application, all applicants must ensure they have read the policy and the relevant appendices, which will provide information such as conditions of licences, the penalty points scheme and vehicle standards
