Greater Cambridge residents and businesses can now use a redesigned website that provides instant hyperlocal planning information - and simplifies the planning process.
Greater Cambridge Shared Planning – a partnership between Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council – has launched its enhanced website at www.greatercambridgeplanning.org
The launch comes days after Greater Cambridge Shared Planning was named the UK’s Planning Authority of the Year at the national Royal Town Planning Institute Awards for Planning Excellence. The redesigned website introduces a range of exciting features aimed at improving accessibility, navigation, and user experience. Among the highlights:
- Localisation: Simply enter your postcode on the homepage to instantly access planning information relevant to your area. This includes active planning applications, flood zones, conservation areas, and tree preservation orders – giving residents quick and easy insight into what’s happening locally on their doorstep. Around 18,000 different people used this function within the first 24 hours of the redesigned website’s launch.
- Improved navigation: A smoother, more intuitive layout ensures you can find the information or services you need without hassle.
- Accessibility tools: A new suite of built-in tools makes the site easier to use for everyone.
- Document library: A brand-new searchable library allows users to view planning documents, including those related to the current Local Plan consultation.
- Mobile-friendly design: Optimised for smartphones and tablets, the site is designed to work seamlessly on any device.
Cllr Dr. Tumi Hawkins, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Lead Cabinet Member for Planning, said: “This reimagined website is a big step forward in making planning information more accessible for our communities. The localisation feature is particularly exciting – residents can simply enter their postcode and instantly see what’s relevant to them. It’s about making planning transparent and easy to understand – all whilst saving time.”
Cllr Katie Thornburrow, Cambridge City Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Transport, added: “We’ve listened to feedback and created a site that works for everyone – whether you’re a resident checking local applications or a business looking for guidance. The improved navigation and accessibility tools mean finding what you need is quicker and simpler than ever.”
Visit the website today at www.greatercambridgeplanning.org - the same URL as always - and explore the features designed to keep you informed and engaged with the planning process.
The new online home for Greater Cambridge Shared Planning comes just months after a revamped website for Greater Cambridge Shared Waste – another shared service between the two councils – was launched. Based at www.greatercambridgewaste.org the redesign is already making it easier to do things like book a bulky waste collection, find out what goes in which bin, check your bin day or see when your street will be cleaned.
