This SPD was revoked following the adoption of the Greater Cambridge Health Impact Assessment Supplementary Planning Document (2025).
Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) are intended to expand upon policy or provide further detail to policies in adopted Development Plan Documents (DPDs). When adopted, SPDs form part of the Local Development Framework but do not have development plan status and are not subject to independent examination.
The Health Impact Assessment SPD
Local planning policy requires a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) to be submitted alongside any planning application for major developments that exceed certain criteria. This ensures applicants demonstrate that the potential impacts on health have been considered at the planning and design stage of development.
The SPD builds on national guidance and provides advice and guidance on the preparation of HIAs, including the steps involved in the process and details of what should be included in the HIA to demonstrate that any health-related impacts have been fully considered.
Status of the Health Impact Assessment SPD
In 2025, the Greater Cambridge Health Impact Assessment Supplementary Planning Document was adopted; it was prepared by the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service on behalf of Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council.
Following the adoption of the Greater Cambridge Health Impact Assessment Supplementary Planning Document, we revoked our Health Impact Assessment Supplementary Planning Document (March 2011).
